A solution in order to increase the flexibility as well as to control the complexity of the logistic system is an implementation of modular logistics. Flexible logistic system raises the reactions on a changing external environment such as the financial crisis. Especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) are facing the challenge to assure that their logistic processes are running effectively and efficiently. The Logistics Department of Berlin University of Technology (TUB) is developing a method for modularization of logistic systems in cooperation with SME. The project’s objective is the development of a modularization guide supporting SME to create logistic modules and to specify the interfaces of each module. Participating logistics providers support the designing of an operator model for an outsourced module. The project focus is set on practical application of theoretical knowledge of logistics modularization in order to identify the potentials for optimization and benefits.
