The documentation of the seminar “Scales and Methodology: Verticality” is dealing with the implications of verticality for the conception of hybrid typologies. Beside just the classical skyscraper needle, the seminar was interested in exploring aspects like principles of stacking, the relation of depth in plan and building hight and structural limits and solution. Within this broader scope of questions, the selected study cases covered different aspects of the topic. More precisely there were these projects to be studied: CCTV Headquarter in Beijing, Centre Pompidou in Paris, Downtown Athletic Club in New York, Edificio Copan in Sao Paulo, NL Expo Pavillon 2000 in Hanover, Sendai Mediatheque in Sendai, Vagelos Education Center in New York and the Wyly Theater in Dallas. The students analyzed those various study cases and while in a second step they formulated a case re-study by transforming the building regarding the results of the previous analysis.
